About this Blog

Welcome

This blog is a resource for teaching and learning about cartography.  It's purpose is to provide a dynamic and interactive portal to both the existing and rapidly expanding resources available over the Internet that relate to mapping.

The history of mapping is one of technological change.  We are currently admidst a transformation of revolutionary scale change that has been enabled by the development of geotechnologies and their intersection with the web.

It is a huge challenge to collect and meaningfully organize the proliferation of information available. A blog is one useful format for this purpose.

Navigating Map Rap

Map Rap is laid out pretty much like a conventional blog.

Under the blog title are the Introduction to Map Rap and a list of key websites in Canada.

The middle panel has two kinds of content (so far):

- periodic notes on the development of the geospatial web, as well as the blog itself.

- links to resources, including:  geospatial tools, and articles related to various issues and applications

The left panel provides links to other blogs that relate to maps and the geospatial web.  Each blog is continuously updated, which makes this my favourite component of Map Rap.

On the right panel is Search this blog and Labels to help when searching the blog for topics like tools, issues and applications.  Past postings to the blog are under Blog Archives.  Under Geolinks are direct links to useful websites related to the geospatial.

Finally, check out the ClustrMap at the bottom left of the blog to see whose been looking at this blog.
